Our Story - Celebrating 40 Years!

Petals & Potpourri is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in Blue Springs on October 25th! First of all, we would like to thank EVERYONE who has been a part of this journey and made the last 40 years in business a success--loyal and new customers, dedicated family, and our talented and creative staff! We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve you and be a part of your lives over the years! Mother, Linda Hinton, founder and creator of Petals & Potpourri, had a desire to provide a boutique shop offering customers a "potpourri" of unique decorating options and gift ideas. This amazing venture started at White Oak Plaza where the business grew from humble beginnings to great success with help from her family, particularly her dad, who believed in her will to succeed.

She and her husband (we call Big Mike,) bought the southwest corner of 40 and 7 highway in 1985. It was formerly The Village Restaurant (photo above), was damaged by a fire and needed a full restoration, even the parking lot! Again, Linda’s family and employees pulled together to help restore the property and set up the new shop. Some of her son, Mike's, favorite memories are of working on the building with his dad and grandpa. He also enjoyed getting ice cream at the Creamy Cone as a reward for all his hard work! We thought it would be fun to share some old pictures from back in the day!

The concept has remained the same for 40 years as we (son Mike and his wife Amber) now own and operate the business. In 2015, we opened our second location on the Historic Downtown Liberty Square! Our daughter, Hanna, enjoys working at the Blue Springs store with Mike and she is learning the ins and outs of running a small business. Linda still plays a role in the company, but is enjoying her retired life being involved in her church, hobbies, and shopping for unique furniture and accents for the shop! If we had to describe her influence on our lives, it would be hard work, perseverance, encouragement, and unconditional love. She is a fierce pioneer whose wisdom, experience, and sacrifices paved the way for us to do what we love as we continue her legacy. We thank you so very much! Here's to another 40 years!

Sincerely, Mike and Amber
