Decorating With Things You Love

It is almost that glorious time of year! Fall! I love the colors and textures of this season even though I am never ready for the cooler temperatures.

This week we focused on bringing fall into the living room by dressing up the mantle and window seats. I wanted to use colors that blend well with our existing furniture and decor.

To be honest, as much as I love to change the look of our home for each season, we don't have a ton of space to store things that we only use a few months a year. Our solution is to invest in several basic pieces that can be used repeatedly in different places.

The Mantle

The tall glass cylinders and the arrangement sitting in the center of the mantle are staples we use for every season. By changing the contents, I can completely change the look of the room.

The Window Seats

The candlesticks on the window seat are used year round. I just change what sits on top so I never get tired of them! The painted crock belonged to my mother-in-law, Linda Hinton. When she opened Petals & Potpourri, she bought it from a shop on the Independence Square. She had a local crafter paint the logo. It was used to hold to hold her house blend of potpourri that was sold by the scoop. She kept it all this time and gave it to us a few years ago. It is one of our most sentimental belongings. I love it so very much!

Fall Window Seat

Since it is getting dark a little earlier, I moved the lighted branch arrangements from the mantle to the window seats because I like the reflection in the window at night time. It also looks really pretty from outside! To bring the colors of fall to the room, I added some stems of warm browns and soft green leaves.

These simple concepts transformed our living room and we are here to help you apply them to your home. Enjoy the coming season and don’t get too overwhelmed. Have fun and decorate with things you love! That is what it's all about!

Happy Fall!
